Patreon

I’ve been asked repeatedly about Patreon and have been encouraged to move my blog to my own site so I could try and make money thru advertising etc. Thank you! It means a lot that you would show your gratitude by concern for me! So I’ve decided to give it a try, and I want some feed back from you on a few things.

Ok, now don’t laugh… I had said I wanted to wait until I could do this right, but wow, it’s a lot harder than I thought. In theory it’s just a few paragraphs to write here and there, but in practice… what do you say?!? I’d love it if you could take a friendly look at my first pass then come back and give me some opinions: The Liquid Fire

Since my blog is called “The Liquid Fire” it seemed logical to use something related to heat on the tier levels. I googled things like fire, heat index, volcanoes and stages of eruption, but nothing sounded good. Who wants to pay for the “gas build-up tier”, eh? So far I’ve settled on peppers, the more you are willing to contribute, the hotter you are. Cheesy? Clever? Haha, I don’t know.

Tier names are just the beginning though. What should I offer as incentives at each level? The truth is, I don’t want to block anyone out of anything. I get the idea that some restricted content is really good as far as business sense, but I’m just not sure I want to. Should Patreon earn enough money to start putting professionally contracted resources into my projects, I think I would want to be able to share that freely too. I could offer my time, but I already do my best to reply to every question and comment here as well as at my forums regardless. Short of actually creating things for you, I doubt I could do much more. Is it okay to leave them blank? Is it ok to just have them because anyone who wants to support me is then free to support me at whatever level they choose?

Thoughts on the banner? I kind of like it- I know I need to take a higher resolution screen shot, I’m just playing with ideas at the moment. How about profile picture? I think the SNES controller looks pretty cool there and helps imply the purpose of my blog, but my wife (biased though she may be) thinks my handsome face should actually go there.

The welcome paragraph is pretty challenging too. How do you write something that would make people want to throw their money at you without sounding full of yourself. I think it turned out well enough.

Finally, what about the goals? I wrote them pretty matter of factly, but perhaps I should try harder to “sell” it? Have I missed anything? As with everything all feedback good or bad (as long as it is constructive) is welcome. Feel free to leave a comment, post on my forum, or whatever, but I really do want to know.
